New from natural and organic food brand Clearspring comes a new authentic Japanese seasoning: Organic Yuzu Ponzu.

Available in a 150ml bottle, Clearspring Organic Yuzu Ponzu is made with the juice of Japanese yuzu – a citrus fruit that has been used in Japanese cooking for over a thousand years.

The fruit is described as having a complex flavour profile of lime, lemon, grapefruit and mandarin, and the product marries this with the savoury-sweet flavour of naturally brewed soy sauce, sweet mirin and rice vinegar.

Although ponzu commonly uses fish stock, Clearspring has replaced this with the plant-based flavour of umami-rich Kombu seaweed to make a 100% vegan product.

Ponzu is extremely versatile and can be used as a dining table condiment, drizzled across salads, as an ingredient in dressings and marinades or as a dipping sauce.

Clearspring director Maria Dawson explains that the product has been some time in the making: “We wanted to ensure we captured the authentic taste of Japanese Ponzu, whilst making it plant-based and accessible to all.

“There is a huge international focus on Japan this year. With the launch of this new Organic Yuzu Ponzu, we want to invite even more people to try Japanese foods and ingredients and add the great taste of Japan to their mealtimes.”
