The winners of the 2017 Sustainable Beauty Awards were announced at a ceremony in Paris earlier this month.

The winner of the Sustainable Ingredient award was Neal’s Yard Remedies with its Frankincense Boswellia Sacra Resin Extract. The new anti-ageing organic skincare ingredient is made from spent resin from the distillation of frankincense essential oils in Oman.

Bulgarian company Alteya Organics took the Green Formulations award with its Rose Jasminium range based on the Bulgarian Rose, grown according to organic practices in the Rose Valley.

Sulapac from Finland won the Sustainable Packaging category with its innovative range of premium packaging made from renewable wood chips taken from sustainable managed forests, as well as other biodegradable materials.

Sweden’s AAK claimed Sustainability Pioneer for its sustainable sourcing programmes for shea butter. It works directly with over 115,000 women to collect shea nuts in West Africa, creating a significant social impact, as well as environmental benefits.

The Sustainability Leadership mantle was taken by the American company Aveda with its wide range of sustainability initiatives, covering natural ingredient sourcing, green energy, sustainable packaging, waste management, and corporate philanthropy.

Organized by Ecovia Intelligence, the awards recognize organizations pushing the boundaries of sustainability in the beauty industry.

The jury comprised executives from an ingredient firm, natural food retailer, formulation company, natural cosmetics association, media agency and research firm.
