Brighton-based ethical supermarket HISBE has been recognized in the Green Heart Hero Awards due to its commitment to sustainability.

The social enterprise scooped the Best Small Business award, which was collected by HISBE’s Jack Simmonds and Ruth Anslow at a special ceremony held in Parliament and hosted by TV and radio presenter Clive Anderson.

We’re dedicating this win to all the supermarket rebels on the journey with us towards creating a sustainable future for food and farming

“We are proud and grateful that HISBE has won the Best Small Business category in the national Green Heart Hero awards,” says Anslow. “We’re dedicating this win to all the supermarket rebels on the journey with us towards creating a sustainable future for food and farming.

“To us, it’s crucial to challenge the current systems for producing and distributing food, because they are inefficient, wasteful and inequitable – and a significant contributor to climate change.”

The Green Heart Hero Awards are coordinated by The Climate Coalition – a group of over 130 organizations representing over 15 million people nationwide – and recognize the work that individuals and businesses around the country are doing to safeguard a stable climate for future generations.
