Waitrose saw sales of organic food rise 6.6% in the last quarter, reports The Grocer.

Speaking at the opening of its new Greenwich branch, Waitrose MD said he attributed the sales upturn to increasing consumer concern over traceability and authenticity. “I think it’s in reaction to GM, Horsegate and the neonicotinoids debate,” he said, adding “that has made people buy into organic again.”

But the Waitrose boss said the organic sector still needed to work on creating clearer messages about the benefits of choosing organic.
