Hickory Nuts crack UK market

abakus

Abakus Foods has introduced Hickory Nuts into the UK as a tasty and nutritious snack offer.

The hickory tree is native to North America and Southeast Asia, and its nuts are a rich source of manganese as well as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

The nuts are gently baked in the oven with only a light sprinkle of salt and sugar (less than 5%) to give a crunchy, rich and buttery flavour, described as ‘butterscotch’.

Designed to be a guilt-free snack at 130kcal per pack, Abakus Hickory Nuts can be eaten as a snack on their own or sprinkled onto granola, muesli, yoghurt, salads and desserts.

The hickory tree takes over ten years to mature and carry fruit, and once harvested the nut meat has to be carefully extracted by hand.
