IFEMA Madrid opened its doors for a ‘successful return’ of Organic Food Iberia (OFI) and Eco Living Iberia (ELI) on 8-9 June, as 4,300 visitors flocked to discover the best organic produce from across Spain and Portugal’s many food production areas, as well as the latest eco launches and sustainable fare from around Europe – including Greece, France, Poland, Austria and Belgium.
The two-day international fair, which has enjoyed ‘rapid growth’ since its last edition in September 2021, featured thousands of products from over 350 exhibitors, connecting them with senior buyers from Spain’s biggest supermarkets, pharmacies, distributors, importers and exporters, along with buyers from around the world.
With the support of ICEX, OFI’s extensive hosted buyer programme attracted buyers from a record 51 countries. Other key features of the show included organic wine tasting, the return of live cooking demonstrations and the Eco & Organic Awards Iberia 2022. The Spanish regions of Madrid, Andalucía, La Rioja, Murcia, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura, Valencia and Navarra were represented in dedicated pavilions – promotion which David Samper, president of Consejo de Agricultura Ecológica de la Región de Murcia, says was ‘very much needed’.

A full seminar programme across four theatres provided the platform for important insights into the trends within the Iberian organic food market, as well as health and wellness, beauty, textiles and lifestyle. Topics discussed during debates and interviews extended to organic farming in the EU; greenwashing in cosmetics; organic wine disruption; certification; organic vegan products; and sustainable packaging.
Susana Andrés Omella, OFI project director, comments that the show floor was ‘full of energy’. “Spain is recognized as the largest and one of the most innovative producers of organic in Europe, which is why Organic Food and Eco Living Iberia is the place where the whole sector come together to network and do business. The positive feedback from our exhibitors and visitors (from across the world) proves how the show continues to be one of most important international organic events in the diary.”
