Start-up The African Foodie has launched with an initial four Vegan Society-certified North African sauces and relishes. Berber Harissa is an authentic chilli sauce made from cayenne peppers, garlic, carraway olive oil, sunflower oil and dried chillies and can be used as a cooking ingredient or as an accompaniment, while Omek Houria is a lively carrot relish with garlic, coriander and carraway seeds. Also in the line-up are Tunisian Shakshuka sauce and Libyan Mashwiya. “In time, The African Foodie hopes to celebrate the finest food traditions from across the African Continent, however in the short-term the focus is very much Tunisia and Libya, vibrant hotbeds of artisanal, vegan-leaning fayre,” says founder Alsamani Khider.
