The FaceUp2It campaign, created by Skin:Genius co-founder Julia Vearncombe, kicked off this month to raise awareness and bring support to those suffering with mental health issues, anxiety and bullying through having skin conditions.

GP, broadcaster and health writer Dr Ellie Cannon joined Vearncombe, heading up a panel including beauty expert, radio presenter and podcaster Nicola Bonn; actor, TV presenter and anti-bullying campaigner Scott McGlynn; and Sallie Berkerey, MD of Cosmetic Executive Women.

“FaceUp2It comes from the heart of Skin: Genius and embodies why we do what we do,” stated Vearncombe. “By collaborating with several experts in skincare, mental wellbeing, physical health, nutrition, beauty and grooming, we are bringing together resources and people. All I ask is that people tell their friends, family and colleagues about FaceUp2It as someone will be grateful that they did.”

There’s huge power in people hearing from others who’ve gone through what they’re going through

“The idea of FaceUp2It allowing people to be open, talk and share as a community is really empowering,” added Cannon. “A lot of these issues have been very closed over the years, and we know this can lead to poor mental health and even bullying. There’s huge power in people hearing from others who’ve gone through what they’re going through. That why it’s tremendously important to have a platform like FaceUp2It to empower anybody who is living with a skin condition.”

During the event, Berkerey also urged skincare brands to be proactive in helping people find the correct products for them. “Skincare companies, both large and small, need to be very effective in their communication to consumers and keep things simple because the skincare market can be incredibly overwhelming if you’ve got a problem,” she said.

The launch comes in the same month that Skin:Genius has launched two new products to rescue dry, parched and inflamed skin combining powerful active botanical ingredients, chosen for their ability to restore calm and moisture to red, cracked and flaky skin.

Gentle and effective, the products are suitable for babies, children, teens and adults and can be used safely alongside steroid treatments. They are also an effective way for people to wean themselves off medicated products, says the brand.
