Food Inc gets exclusive trade screening at Olympia show

One of the most hotly anticipated movies of the year — Food Inc. — is to get a special trade-only screening at this year’s Natural & Organic Products Europe.

Co-produced by Fast Food Nation author, Eric Schlosser, Food Inc. shines an unflattering light on a side of the food industry that gets hidden from consumers. Focusing on the American industry, but with parallels with our own centralised food chain, Food Inc. exposes the way America’s food supply is controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health.

Schlosser explains: “We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.”

Natural & Organic Products Europe event director, Simon Barry, says: “Food Inc. deals with issues that have long been major concerns for the natural and organic industry. Screening it at Olympia not only gives people in our industry a convenient opportunity to see the movie themselves, it also sends out a message about the values at the heart of the natural and organic sector.”

Food Inc. will be shown in Olympia’s Pillar Room at 8.30 am on Monday April 12 — a special early screening to ensure visitors and exhibitors can still enjoy a full day on the show floor.

A special media screening of Food Inc, organised by organic and ethical food brand Organico will take place in London on February 9. To watch a trailer of Food Inc. visit http://www.foodincmovie.com/
