The future of the organic sector is discussed in the Organic Food & Eco Living Iberia 2024 seminars

  • The fifth edition, which will be held on June 4 and 5 at IFEMA MADRID, announces a complete program of seminars and conferences that complement the extensive exhibition area.

Madrid, May 22, 2024.- The fifth edition of Organic Food & Eco Living Iberia will open its doors on June 4 and 5 at IFEMA MADRID , hosting for another year the leading professional event in the Iberian Peninsula in the organic sector that It brings together the best producers, buyers and distributors from around the world.

The extensive exhibition area in which organic food, health and well-being, beauty, skin care, textiles and household and cleaning products will be displayed is complemented by a complete program of seminars and conferences . Thus, personalities and recognized experts from the organic industry will address the most current topics of the sector in presentations, debates and presentations in two different spaces: Organic Talks by Bio Eco Actual, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain (MAPA) and Eco Talks.

The Organic Food & Eco Living Iberia 2024 program

The program will start on Tuesday, June 4 in the Organic Talks by Bio Eco Actual space at 10:00 with the presentation of a new Sector Platform, followed at 11:00 by ‘Challenges of the organic sector in times of uncertainty’ , by Diego Granado from Ecovalia .

Limitations in the use of toxic products and existing alternatives will be the main topics of the round table ‘Ecological pest control in post-harvest treatment’ at 12:00, with the presence of José R. Torres from Roca Defisan , David Vaquerizo from CAAE , Gabriel Mateu from El lobo & 1880 , José Ángel Torres from Unidas del Pistacho , Julián Tortosa from Frutos Secos Mañán , Manuel Ochoa from Dacsa Group and Vicente Cabanes from CAECV .

Next, at 1:00 p.m., the focus will be on The role of supermarkets in the food chain and consumer service with a presentation given by the Technical General Secretary of ASEDAS , Felipe Medina Martín.

At 16:00 the session ‘New challenges, new strategies: keys to communicating the importance of organic farming in the current context’ by Clara Garrone of IFOAM Organics Europe begins , which will analyze possible changes in sustainability trends in the face of the political context. current and upcoming EU elections. Finally, in the Organic Talks space, the first day closes with the round table ‘Situation of the independent organic specialized channel’ with Alberto López from Economato Macabeo , Esteve Doménech from Liverd , Oriol Urrutia from Bio Eco Actual , Enrique Sánchez de la Yncera from Colmado of Bienes , Gemma Álvarez of Ecocentro , and Nacho López of Espacio Orgánico .

Certification , the agroecological value chain, export and international market opportunities will focus on the topics of the second day of the fair, on Wednesday , June 5 , which will host conferences given by the CAAE, the Spanish Federation of Food and Agriculture Industries . Beverages (FIAB), and the Spanish Society of Organic and Agroecological Agriculture (SEAE).

The second day in the Organic Talks space starts at 10:00 with the success stories of the Transformative Experiences of Organic Wineries and Oil Mills and the presentation of medals and mentions of the Ecotrama and Ecoracimo awards.

At 12 noon it will be the turn of the round table ‘The food supplements market in Spain’ , with the participation of Pedro Porta, Founder of Alternatur , Carolina Girbés, Marketing Director of Herbolario Navarro , Carla Gaya, CEO of Eladiet and vice president of AFEPADI , and Roberto Vimbert, doctor and founding partner of eS Health . Following her, Karen Hoberg from the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture and Agroecology will address in ‘An agroecological value chain’ its role in facilitating the agroecological transition and achieving the objective of 25% of organic surface area in the European Union in 2030.

At 2:00 p.m. the FIAB round table is convened with Rocío Amatriaín from Carrefour BIO and Verónica Puente from FIAB . There will also be room to talk about the role of fair trade in the organic sector in the round table ‘The Fair Trade market in Spain’ , closing the days at 3:00 p.m. with the presence of representatives from AlterNativa3 , IDEAS Fair Trade , Oxfam Intermón and Fairtrade Ibérica .

For its part, the Eco Talks space begins on June 4 at 12:00 with the presentation ‘Fitment of ecological production in a century-old industry’ by Pasqual Sanchis. At 2:00 p.m., representatives from Carrefour , Veritas , CAAE and the US Chamber of Commerce will talk about the retail trade of organic products. Wednesday the 5th starts at 11:00 with Roberto Vimbert’s talk ‘The Science of Hormesis and Food Supplements’ . At 12:00 professional visitors will be able to attend a review of the beginnings of Cantero de Letur from 1990 to today led by its director Pablo Cuervo-Arango.

The Interprofessional Wine Organization of Spain and Vini Portugal will convene two workshops – one each day of the fair – aimed at professionals in the sector (sommeliers, importers and journalists), who will be able to taste and learn about different Spanish organic wines (five in each tasting), through an exciting journey through the different DOP and PGI.
