H&B predicts 2.5m shoppers will join loyalty scheme

Holland & Barrett has launched a new loyalty scheme under the name Rewards for Life.

Shoppers will be able to pick up their Rewards for Life cards in store and online from Thursday 29 September. Card holders are awarded 4 points for every £1 spent in store making it one highest reward schemes on the high street, says the retailer.

The programme is being rolled out across the health food chain’s 700 stores following a successful pilot which has been run in 40 stores over the past six months and saw 200,000 customers sign up in the pilot area in its first 19 weeks, with a forecast of signing up 2.5 million customers in the programme’s first year.

Phil Geary, NBTY Europe’s group director of marketing, commented: “We have spent time researching and developing the loyalty programme and we are confident that Rewards for Life will be a huge hit with our customers. In the longer term this is also a fantastic opportunity for us to analyse how Holland & Barrett customers shop to help us ensure we are meeting their needs as consumers as best we can and enable us to target offers that are relevant to them.”

Customers signing up will receive 150 free points on activation, worth £1.50, as well as benefiting from special points promotions and events that will be held in stores on a regular basis.

As well as being able to collect points in-store, shoppers will also be able to use their Rewards for Life card to collect points shopping online at hollandandbarrett.com. Points collected will be issued to customers each quarter.

A new television advert campaign announcing the introduction of the loyalty programme and featuring TV presenter Gethin Jones will be launched to coincide with the introduction of the scheme.
