In a new deal with Moving Mountains, Canadian fast-food chain Tim Hortons is to be the first restaurant in the UK to serve the plant-based brand’s latest ‘meat’ product, the Sausage Patty.

Made from a combination of oyster mushrooms, pea and wheat protein, and coconut oil to provide a ‘juicy consistency’, the 2oz Sausage Patty has been created to combine the look and texture of a traditional sausage patty with the taste of pork for flexitarians, vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters. The brand says the addition of vitamin B12 makes the Sausage Patty able to ‘genuinely compete with a pork or beef patty’.

“We are excited to unveil our brand new Moving Mountain Sausage Patty at Tim Hortons,” says Simeon Van der Molen, Moving Mountains’ founder. “The iconic Canadian restaurant with 25 sites in the UK is the perfect partner for us, as it aligns with our mission to provide consumers with quick and convenient access to high quality plant-based food.

“The Mountains Moving Sausage Patty has been developed to emulate the exact taste and texture of a pork patty, but without causing the same environmental impact on the animal agriculture industry and without compromising on taste or nutrition.”

Kevin Hydes, CFO of Tim Hortons UK and Ireland UK, says: “We have seen lots of interest from our customers for non-meat options and have worked hard in partnership with Moving Mountains to find options to meet these requests. With this new plant-based patty, we are excited to offer an even wider range of products, giving our customers choice and flexibility.”

The product will be available as a breakfast veggie muffin, vegan wrap or veggie burger in 25 restaurants across the UK, including branches in Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester, Cardiff and Glasgow.

This is the first time that Moving Mountains has partnered with a fast-food chain in the UK.

Moving Mountains has also just announced that its plant-based meat is now available in the UK retail sector. Consumers will be able to purchase the brand’s new Sausage Burger, as well as its Sausage and Hot Dog, in Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.
