Sustainable period brand DAME says it is continuing to pave the way for innovative, eco-friendly period products with the launch of its new Reusable Interlabial Pads and a new awareness campaign.

interlabialCreated to solve the product of a leaking pad, an interlabial pad is a small piece of fabric that is inserted into the labia to control the flow of a period and prevent sudden gushes. The biggest problem to date, says the brand, is how difficult these pads are to come by: ‘Interlabial pads aren’t exactly a fixture in the period aisle’.

DAME also recommends using the pads on their own to protect underwear from any discharge or mid-cycle spotting.

Here at DAME, our mission is to make periods positive

Presented in packs of three, the interlabial pads are made using the offcuts of DAME’s new EveryDAME period pants which will be launching in early 2023.

Vegan-certified and treated with sustainable odour control using non-nano recycled silver, the pads can also be worn for up to six hours and washed and reused for years.

Commenting on the launch, Celia Pool, DAME co-founder said: “Interlabial pads might be a lesser-known period product at present, but we are so excited to be spreading the word of this mini pad and its fantastic uses. Here at DAME, our mission is to make periods positive, so we are thrilled to be making this product using offcuts, causing as little harm to our environment as possible.”

Harsh chemicals in period products should be out of the question

DAME has also launched a new London-based campaign which aims to expose the hidden nasties that go into period products – such as chlorine, bleach, plastic, toxins – and encourage people to make the switch to organic and more sustainable period options.

“On average, a tampon user will have a tampon inside of them for a cumulative 7.5 years over their lifetime,” says Celia Pool, DAME co-founder. “As the vagina is one of the most absorbent parts of the body, harsh chemicals in period products should be out of the question to keep everyone who menstruates as safe and comfortable as possible.”
